The Canted Angle is a blog where I offer my own unique perspective mainly on film, but also on books and really anything that catches my attention. I am Anna, a 22 year old residing in the East Village of New York City, a recent graduate of New York University with a major in Cinema Studies and minor in Creative Writing. A canted angle, also known as a dutch tilt, is a film term that refers to when the camera is slightly tilted so that the horizon of the shot is at an angle to the bottom of the frame.
Here is an example from Danny Boyle’s 2008 film Slumdog Millionaire. The perspective is just a little bit off, and so is mine.
(The header of this blog is a film still of cross-dressing entertainer Gael García Bernal in Pedro Almodóvar’s 2004 film La Mala Educación or Bad Education. Film still taken from AllMoviePhoto, an awesome website with tons of photos from many many films.)
Anna, your website is amazing! You are a brilliant writer ( as if you didnt already know that!)
I love how you compare your perspective to a canted angle..” a little bit off.” Brilliant again and so appealing!
I read the book review. I hadnt heard of the book, but your review sounds like I would enjoy it.
Kudos to you on this fabulous website. I’m book marking it so I can come back and read more!!!!!
